For anyone still having a dilemma, the Shield version is more practical. If it's Superior, it will cost more to repair the Oak Sage charges, and durability if any loss occurs. Same goes for if you accidentally attack something. In any case, both variants are beneficial mostly for their Mana increase, Skill level increase, and impressive Faster Cast Rate. If you ever want to use the Oak Sage (I use it for Hell Ancients), you cannot repair it if it is ethereal. If players are using wands for their Necromancers, then they might want to get the shield variant of the Runeword instead.
